Yeah, on friday 7th of November I finally met up with my fellow CSA-EUR board members after a long time, well since last year July if I remember correctly. Anyway, we had a nice sea food platter and some lamb at Hotel New York in Rotterdam and had a nice time catching up on what everyone’s been up in the past year. Jason started working for the goverment (Ministerie van Economische Zaken) and Yen Pan is still enjoying working at IBM, she’s currently stationed in London till the end of the year. If I have time I will drop by YP. Nathaly stopped working at AEGON and is currently like me also on the hunt … for a job. Yee Tee couldn’t join sadly enough, next time you have to be there!!! He’s also enjoying his job at IBM. After dinner we went to a bar/club to chillax (for the people that are wondering, chillax = chilling + relaxing) before heading back home.

That was two weeks ago and since then I’ve sent a few letters to a few companies, not gonna say which ones. Last week friday and saturday I went to the Nationale Carrierebeurs and did some workshops and spoke with a few people of different companies. One of which I will apply for. The jobfair was ok, it was pretty crowded on both days. Specially after 12:00, people did show up that early, and how did I know that it got more crowded after 12. Because I was there around 10:30am on both days and stayed pretty long each day because I wanted to check out the workshops. Which were entertaining but I didn’t hear anything new.

Yesterday I was reading up on one of my favorite tech communities Tweakers.net (sorry, it’s a Dutch tech site) and saw this cool article about a 3D OS that everyone could admire in the movie Minority Report. Being the gadget geek that I am I kind of can’t wait for this kind of technology to become available for us normal consumers and the possibilities it can create in terms of interactivity and UI (User Interface). Check out the video by clicking on the link and be amazed as I was.

Minority Report made reality? Here is g-speak!!!

Well on another note, my recovery of my knee is coming along very nicely and today at physical therapy I had a small run on a machine at the end of the session. Got some exercises which I am definately gonna be doing and I can’t wait to see how much I’ve improved wednesday. I finally have the feeling that I can start doing everything again, I could do all the daily things like walk, drive, walk stairs etc but running and sporting were out of the question. They still are but I am slowly getting to the point that I might be able to start sporting again within a few weeks.

After one year Yen Pan finally got back in the Netherlands. For those that just tuned in or forgot, Yen Pan was handeling External Affairs and Formal Activities during my year as Chairman of CSA-EUR. More info about CSA-EUR can be found on the official website http://www.csa-eur.nl.

She got back two weeks ago and we planned a get together on friday the 3rd of August in Rotterdam. It is like nothing has really changed when we get together. The same group dynamic is still there and to be honest, it’s something I missed the last year. After one year in the board you really bond with each other. To bad that Yee Tee wasn’t there since he is on holiday. But we’ll have another get together with the whole gang before I leave for Beijing.

I wasn’t expecting any presents but thank you all for the Lonely Planet China, Harry Potter book 6 and the alcoholic drinks. Now I can read Harry Potter book 6 & 7 before I leave or in the plane to Beijing. And yeah, I know it was stupid of me to buy book 7 thinking I could read it after seeing the latest movie. What was I thinking ??? … guess I’m getting demented.

It was fun seeing you all again, don’t forget we’re going to The Simpsons movie. That’ll be one hell of an evening and I’m looking forward to it.

The story begins last year before the start of the summer holiday. I applied for the position of secretary and was selected. The reason for my application was that I was a committee member and because I saw a lot of potential for the association. Together with two other committee members we decided to apply for a board position. Nathaly applied for the position of treasurer and Jason applied for the position of commissioner PR.

The fourth board member was Yen Pan who applied for the position of commissioner external affairs. We got selected and in July we started setting up the organization with one position still open, that of the chairman. Before the start of the academic year I was chosen to be the chairman and thus that was the start of what would end up being the fellowship of the CSA-EUR board.

The 2nd board of CSA-EUR, 2005-2006

The fist half of the year went pretty fast and before we all knew it, it was December and the biggest event of CSA-EUR was almost at our doorstep. The Chinese New Year celebration of CSA-EUR on the Erasmus. China In Focus was three days of total mayhem but it was worth all the effort and time we put into organizing it. It was a kick to see al the people staring at the traditional lion dance & wu shu demonstration, people coming to our stand and signing up for Chinese Courses and all of that. We also had full exposure in the Erasmus Magazine the week before China In Focus.

After China In Focus the second half of the year also went very fast with things we organized: Big2 tournament, Pool tournament, Chinese High Potential Forum in collaboration with CJO, Social Corporate Responsibility in collaboration with NCDO and we ended the year with the BBQ which I spoke of in one of my former postings.

The only thing left to do was to hand over the responsibilities of the board to the next group of people that will guide and lead CSA-EUR for 2006-2007. That day was Wednesday 13 September and it was a day of joy and a day of sorrow for me as it meant that the fellowship of the board was coming to an end. But a new group of people has stepped up to the plate to take on the challenges of being the board the coming year.

Even though I’m officially not a part of the daily operations I will always be there for CSA-EUR when needed. It’s been a part of my life for two years and I still keep in touch with a lot of people.

Once again I would like to thank all the people that helped out in making this year such a great success for CSA-EUR!!! It was an honor to get to know all of you and to work together with you.

My fellow board members:
Nathaly, Yen Pan, Jason, Yee Tee.

Informal activities committee:
Rocky, Angela, Kafong & Kajang

Formal activities committee:
Elly, Shuhua, Chanelle

PR committee:
Silvia, Yunzhi, Siewman, Chunghei, Andruin

Servicecommittee:
Fenfen, Jinyong, Tina

The final words are for my fellow board members. Don’t forget the pact we made with the Buddha’s and the ducks.

Yesterday was the final event of CSA-EUR before the summer which was a BBQ in the Kralingse Plas. There was some stress with organizing the BBQ. Last week I heared that 31 people registered for the BBQ so I was happy about that but I did not expect to hear a day before the BBQ that the number of people that registered was 60+. Yep 60+ people … and all of them came yesterday.

Everyone that I spoke on the BBQ had a great time and enjoyed themselves. I’m really proud that the BBQ was such a huge succes and it was a great way to end the college year and a succesful and educational year for me with CSA-EUR. For the people that don’t know, I was the chairman of CSA-EUR this year.

It was nice to see a lot of familiar faces again and to meet new people that came along with their friends. I totally forgot to take pictures with my camera but I saw enough people with camera’s so it’s only a matter of collecting them so they can be posted on the CSA-EUR website, visit it to learn more about our young and growing organization. http://www.csa-eur.nl

The BBQ started at 3pm and we (as in CSA-EUR active members) were at the BBQ site at around 2:30pm to set up things. When we got there at 2:30 and started unloading all the stuff we had people were kind of staring at us like: “WTF are they going to do with all that stuff?”. It was kind of funny to see a small group of chinese carrying around three cars full of stuff. Anyway, we fired up the grill around 4pm and the first group of people came around that time. 6pm just about everyone was present and everyone was eating, drinking, playing cards/soccer/volleyball or just having a great time. The BBQ ended around 9pm and it was time to clean up all the crap we made with the BBQ.Afterwards a smaller group of 20 people went downtown to have a drink and to just chill and relax. Yeah I know, smaller isn’t exactely the word but compared with the 60+ it’s still smaller.

Like I said in the beginning, it was a enjoyable day and a good ending of a great year with CSA-EUR.

I would like to thank all the people that helped out in making this year such a great succes for CSA-EUR!!! It was an honor to get to know all of you and to work together with you.
